The first of Viasat's third-generation constellation — designed to deliver 1 Tbps of capacity over the Americas, 10 times ViaSat-2's throughput. After launch in 2023, a reflector deployment anomaly prevented ViaSat-3 Americas from achieving its intended capacity, providing only a fraction of planned throughput. The partial failure was one of the costliest satellite anomalies in commercial history — a humbling reminder that even proven operators can face crippling technical failures at the frontier of satellite technology.
