An SES all-electric satellite at 47.5°W serving the Americas and Atlantic with C-band and Ka-band capacity. SES-14 carries a NASA-hosted instrument — the Global-scale Observations of the Limb and Disk (GOLD) mission that observes Earth's upper atmosphere from geostationary orbit — making it one of the rare commercial satellites hosting a NASA science payload. GOLD monitors space weather effects on Earth's thermosphere while SES-14's commercial transponders serve Latin American cable and enterprise markets.
