The second Mission Extension Vehicle, currently docked to Intelsat 10-02 and extended its service contract to provide four additional years of life. MEV-2 docked while IS-10-02 was still in its operational GEO slot — a more challenging approach than MEV-1 used — demonstrating mature satellite servicing capability without interrupting service to the 18 million European TV households the satellite serves. MEV-2 represents the beginning of a commercial ecosystem where satellite operators routinely budget for in-orbit servicing rather than replacement.
